Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir initiated a major search and combing operation along the Line of Control (LoC) on Thursday following a serious security breach. The operation was launched in the Poonch district after reports emerged of a drone dropping an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and weapons near the border early in the morning.
Incident Details and Swift Response
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday in the sensitive Chakkan da Bagh belt of Khari village. According to police sources, the drone reportedly dropped its payload in the area between Rangar Nallah and the Poonch River. Upon receiving the alert, a joint team comprising the Indian Army, the Special Operations Group (SOG), and local police immediately cordoned off the area and began intensive searches.
Recovery of Suspicious Materials
The swift action by the security personnel led to a significant recovery. A bag containing dozens of ammunition rounds was found at the scene. More alarmingly, the forces also recovered a yellow tiffin box that is strongly suspected to be an IED. The discovery of these items confirms the hostile intent behind the drone activity and has raised serious security concerns in the region.
Ongoing Operations and Heightened Vigilance
Following the recovery, the combing operation has been intensified across the vicinity to ensure no other suspicious items or threats remain. The area along the LoC in Poonch has been under heightened surveillance due to its vulnerability to such cross-border drone activities. This incident underscores the evolving nature of security threats in the region, where non-state actors are increasingly using technology to smuggle weapons and explosives.
The security forces have maintained a tight cordon, and investigations are ongoing to trace the origins of the drone and the network behind this attempted infiltration. The recovery operation on Thursday demonstrates the continued vigilance and rapid response capability of the Indian security apparatus in Jammu and Kashmir.
