Major Drug Bust Leads to Arrest of Alleged Narcotics Kingpin in Kerala
In a significant development in the fight against drug trafficking, the Ernakulam rural police have apprehended an alleged drug mafia leader connected to a recent major cannabis seizure. The arrest marks a crucial breakthrough in dismantling an extensive interstate narcotics network operating in the region.
Key Suspect Apprehended After Weeks in Hiding
The accused, identified as 46-year-old Abdul Jabbar, also known by the alias Ronaldo Jabbar, was taken into custody from a rented residence in Erattupetta on Wednesday. A native of Karumalloor in North Paravur, Jabbar had been evading authorities for several weeks following the cannabis seizure operation.
Police officials confirmed that Jabbar represents a central figure in a sophisticated interstate drug smuggling and distribution network. According to investigative sources, the network has been actively involved in large-scale cannabis trafficking, with contraband reportedly sourced from multiple Indian states including Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, and Andhra Pradesh.
Extensive Criminal History and Network Operations
Law enforcement records indicate that Jabbar faces charges in nearly twenty criminal cases, with a substantial number directly linked to narcotics offenses. His arrest culminates approximately three months of intensive surveillance conducted by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) operating under the Ernakulam rural police jurisdiction.
"Sustained monitoring and tracking of the network's movements ultimately led to this breakthrough," stated police officials involved in the operation. The meticulous investigation focused on mapping the network's logistics and identifying key personnel involved in the trafficking chain.
Coordinated Police Operation and Previous Arrest
The arrest follows closely on the heels of another significant apprehension made just one day earlier. Police intercepted 38-year-old Haneef from Kasaragod at TB Junction in Angamaly while he was allegedly transporting cannabis in a luxury vehicle.
Investigators revealed that Haneef had procured the contraband from Odisha based on specific instructions from Jabbar. The seized cannabis, weighing 62 kilograms and packed in thirty-one separate packets, was discovered concealed within a specially modified compartment located behind the rear seat of the car.
This interception resulted from coordinated efforts between the DANSAF team and Angamaly police personnel working in tandem to track the network's activities.
Leadership and Ongoing Investigation
The comprehensive anti-narcotics operation was spearheaded by District Police Chief K S Sudarshan, with crucial support from Narcotic Cell DSP J Umesh Kumar and Aluva DSP Babukuttan. Their collaborative approach enabled the systematic unraveling of the trafficking network's operations.
Police authorities have emphasized that investigations remain active and ongoing. Law enforcement teams are currently working to identify additional network members and trace the complete scope of the drug trafficking operation. The focus includes mapping financial transactions, transportation routes, and distribution channels utilized by the criminal organization.
This successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated anti-narcotics efforts in Kerala and represents a substantial setback for organized drug trafficking networks operating in southern India.
