Drug Peddler Arrested in Itanagar with 14g Heroin

In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Itanagar Police successfully apprehended a drug peddler on Sunday, recovering a substantial quantity of heroin. The operation, based on specific intelligence, led to the arrest of a young man from Bihar residing in the capital city.

Operation Based on Credible Intelligence

The arrest was the result of a well-coordinated police action initiated after receiving credible information about drug peddling activities. Itanagar Superintendent of Police Jummar Basar stated that a team was swiftly formed to act on the tip-off.

The police team was led by Itanagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kengo Dirchi and operated under the direct supervision of SP Basar. Their target was a suspect operating in the Ganga Market area of Itanagar.

Arrest and Seizure Details

The accused has been identified as Md Anitullah, aged 22. Police records indicate he is originally a native of Rampur in the East Champaran district of Bihar but was currently living in Itanagar's Ganga Market.

Upon his apprehension, a search was conducted. The police team recovered 94 plastic vials containing heroin. The total weight of the seized narcotic substance was approximately 14 grams.

Officials estimated the street value of the confiscated heroin to be around Rs 2.5 lakh. This seizure represents a major interruption to the local drug supply chain.

Legal Action Initiated

Following the arrest and seizure, the Itanagar Police Station has registered a formal case against the accused peddler. The case has been filed under the stringent Sections 21(b), 27(A), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

These sections pertain to possession of commercial quantities, financing drug trafficking, and abetment or criminal conspiracy in relation to narcotics offenses. The registration of the case marks the beginning of the judicial process against the accused.

This arrest underscores the continued vigilance of the Arunachal Pradesh police against the menace of drug trafficking in the strategically important frontier state.
