Delhi Police have apprehended a drug peddler and recovered a substantial cache of banned medicines from his possession. The arrest was made during a routine patrol in the national capital, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Details of the Operation
The accused, identified as a resident of a nearby locality, was intercepted by a police team near a market area. Upon searching his bag, officers found several strips of prohibited drugs and medicines that are strictly regulated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The seized items include codeine-based cough syrups, tramadol tablets, and other habit-forming substances commonly abused by addicts.
Police Investigation
According to a senior police officer, the accused was operating a small-scale illicit trade, supplying these medicines to local addicts and small-time dealers. Preliminary interrogation revealed that he procured the stock from an undisclosed source in another state. The police are now working to trace the supply chain and identify other individuals involved in the network.
Legal Action: The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and is currently in police custody. He will be produced before a local court to seek further remand for detailed investigation.
Public Health Concern
The misuse of such banned medicines poses a serious threat to public health, especially among the youth. The police have urged citizens to report any suspicious activity related to drug peddling to the nearest police station. A helpline number has also been issued for anonymous tips.
This arrest is part of a larger crackdown by Delhi Police on the illegal drug trade in the city. In recent months, several similar operations have led to the seizure of large quantities of narcotics and the arrest of multiple offenders. The authorities remain vigilant and committed to curbing the menace of drug abuse.
