A terrifying incident of reckless driving shook Bengaluru's upscale Indiranagar area on Thursday night, leaving bystanders in shock and sparking widespread anger online. The event, captured on chilling CCTV footage, shows a speeding car losing control and crashing directly into a popular restaurant.
The Moment of Impact on 100 Feet Road
The incident occurred at approximately 11:35 pm on January 10, 2026, on the busy 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar. The viral video begins innocuously, with a group of people seen chatting casually by the roadside. Suddenly, a Skoda car, moving at high speed, veers dangerously. It first slams into a road divider, then hits a two-wheeler, before finally crashing through the wall of a Barbeque Nation restaurant.
According to police reports, the driver has been identified as Derrick Tony, a 42-year-old man. He was reportedly in an inebriated state at the time of the accident. His journey began on 18th Main Road, and he was heading towards 100 Feet Road when he lost control due to excessive speed.
Public Outrage and Narrow Escape
The CCTV footage, shared widely on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by user @Benarasiyaa, has triggered a massive backlash against the menace of drunk driving. Netizens expressed their fury and relief in equal measure, highlighting the narrow escape of the people present.
One user demanded stringent punishment, commenting, "Atleast 10 years of prison without parole or bail should be the punishment." Others praised the quick reflexes of the bystanders who jumped out of the way in the nick of time. "Situational awareness saves them all. It was just in moments," wrote another. Many specifically pointed out the miraculous escape of the two-wheeler rider who was hit.
Miraculously, no major injuries or fatalities were reported from the shocking crash. However, the man riding the two-wheeler did sustain minor injuries and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Legal Action and Ongoing Menace
Following the incident, the local authorities have taken action. A formal complaint has been registered at the Jeevan Bima Nagar Traffic Police Station against the driver. The case adds to the growing list of horrifying road accidents captured on camera across India, leading many to call for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, especially against driving under the influence.
The video serves as a stark and frightening reminder of how a single act of irresponsibility can endanger multiple lives in a bustling urban center like Bengaluru. It has reignited the debate on road safety and the need for harsher penalties for drunk driving offenders.
