Drunk Driver Causes School Bus Collision in Siddipet, Multiple Injuries Reported
A serious road accident involving a school bus and a cement mixer occurred in Ibrahimnagar, Siddipet on Wednesday, resulting in injuries to 19 individuals, including 16 students and three staff members. The incident has raised significant concerns about road safety and drunk driving near educational institutions.
Details of the Accident and Injuries
According to police reports, approximately 40 people were traveling in the stationary school bus when the cement mixer collided with it from behind. The injured students, aged between 6 and 13 years, were returning from school when the accident took place.
Medical assessment revealed:
- 17 individuals sustained minor injuries and were sent home after receiving first aid
- Two victims suffered head and neck injuries requiring hospital attention
- All injured were initially taken to Govt General Hospital in Siddipet
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Chandra Mohan B, station house officer of Chinnakodur police station, confirmed that the cement mixer driver was apprehended for drunk driving. "The driver was caught drunk driving, and an FIR has been registered under Section 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempt to commit culpable homicide," the officer stated.
Police emphasized that while most injuries were minor, the seriousness of the offense warranted strict legal action against the intoxicated driver who endangered young lives.
Hospital Response and Private Treatment
Doctors at Govt General Hospital reported that only 17 patients (15 children and 2 adults) were brought to their facility. "We advised admission for two patients with head and neck trauma based on CT scan results, but they left against medical advice after the private school management arranged treatment at a private hospital," explained a duty doctor.
The school administration subsequently transferred all injured individuals to a private healthcare facility for continued treatment, raising questions about medical protocol following serious accidents.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of road safety near schools and the dangers of drunk driving, particularly when children are involved. Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances while emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations around educational zones.
