Faridabad: Drunk Driver in Unregistered SUV Causes Highway Chaos, Multiple Cars Hit
Drunk Driver's Rampage on Delhi-Mathura Road Causes Gridlock

Late Thursday night, residents and commuters in Faridabad were thrown into a state of panic as a high-speed SUV went on a destructive spree along the busy Delhi-Mathura Road, also known as National Highway 19. The reckless driving resulted in a series of collisions over a significant distance, ending in a major crash that brought traffic to a standstill.

A Trail of Destruction from Ballabhgarh to Old Faridabad

The alarming sequence of events reportedly started near the Ballabhgarh flyover. Eyewitnesses described a black Mahindra Scorpio, notably without a registration plate, travelling at breakneck speeds in the direction of Delhi. The vehicle first collided with two other cars in the Ballabhgarh area. Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene and stop the driver, he allegedly ignored them, accelerated, and fled from the initial crash site.

The driver continued his dangerous high-speed flight, passing through key points like Bata Chowk and Ajronda. Along this path, the SUV struck several more vehicles, leaving a trail of damaged cars and shocked victims in its wake.

The Final Collision and Dramatic Apprehension

The rampage finally came to a violent end close to the Old Faridabad Metro Station. The driver lost control of the Scorpio, leading to a high-impact collision with a Mahindra Thar and a Mercedes-Benz. The force of the crash was so severe that it pushed the Thar onto the road divider.

The rogue Scorpio itself sustained heavy damage and came to a stop in the middle of the highway. As a large crowd gathered at the scene, they managed to apprehend the driver, who appeared to be heavily intoxicated. The public then handed him over to the police officers who arrived at the location.

Aftermath: Injuries, Gridlock, and Legal Action

Emergency services promptly rushed the injured victims to a nearby private hospital for treatment. The exact number and condition of those hurt have not been officially disclosed at this time.

The aftermath of the multiple collisions caused significant disruption. A major traffic gridlock ensued on the Delhi-Agra Highway, particularly affecting the stretch between Old Faridabad and Bata Chowk. To clear the wreckage and restore order, police had to deploy heavy-duty cranes to remove the mangled vehicles. Traffic flow was eventually successfully restored.

The Faridabad Police have initiated legal proceedings in the case, and the accused driver remains in custody as the investigation continues.

This incident grimly echoes a similar tragedy reported last month in Pune. There, an allegedly intoxicated driver crashed his car into the parking counter of a popular restaurant in Kalyani Nagar, resulting in the death of a valet assistant. According to police officials, the driver at the Toit brewery was heavily inebriated and behaving unruly before the fatal accident occurred.
