COIMBATORE: In a tragic incident, a drunk man allegedly stabbed his wife to death following a heated argument at their residence near Ramanathapuram on Saturday. The police promptly arrested the accused, identified as J Jayachandran, a resident of Church Street in Ramanathapuram and a retired private firm employee.

Background of the Incident

According to police reports, Jayachandran had a history of alcohol addiction and frequently returned home in an inebriated state, which often led to quarrels with his wife, Tamilselvi, aged 51. The couple had two children: a son named Sriram and a married daughter.

Events Leading to the Crime

On the day of the incident, after consuming alcohol, Jayachandran brought biryani home for lunch. He, his wife, and their son Sriram ate together. Following the meal, Sriram left for work. Around 3 pm, a dispute erupted between Jayachandran and Tamilselvi. In a fit of rage, Jayachandran seized a kitchen knife and stabbed Tamilselvi in the abdomen. She collapsed and succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

After the attack, Jayachandran called Sriram and asked him to return home immediately. Upon arrival, Sriram discovered his mother lying in a pool of blood.

Police Action and Investigation

Upon receiving the alert, the Ramanathapuram police rushed to the scene and sent the body to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination. A case was registered against Jayachandran, who was subsequently arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

This tragic event highlights the dangers of alcohol addiction and domestic violence. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
