Delhi University Colleges Evacuated Following Bomb Threat Email

Two prominent institutions of Delhi University in north Delhi, Ramjas College and Miranda House, were evacuated on Monday morning after receiving a bomb threat via email. The alarming message was reportedly sent at 10:53 AM to the official email addresses of the college principals, prompting immediate precautionary measures.

Details of the Threatening Email

In the email, the sender claimed that a series of explosions would occur later in the day, around 12:50 PM. The message asserted that as many as 13 bombs filled with toxic gases had been planted on the college premises. Interestingly, while the main body of the email did not explicitly detail the bomb threat, the subject line itself contained a direct warning about possible explosions, heightening the urgency of the situation.

Swift Response and Evacuation

Taking no chances, authorities initiated comprehensive precautionary measures. Bomb disposal teams (BDT) and dog squads were swiftly deployed to inspect the campuses thoroughly. The principal of Ramjas College, Ajay Arora, informed the media that they evacuated the entire building before authorities even arrived. He revealed that this marked the third such threat the college has faced, emphasizing the seriousness with which they treat these incidents.

Ajay Arora stated, "At any given point, there are at least 3,500 students present in the college. We managed to evacuate all of them within seven to eight minutes, ensuring their safety as our top priority."

Threats Declared a Hoax

Following meticulous inspections by the bomb disposal teams and dog squads, the threats were ultimately declared a hoax. No explosives or hazardous materials were found on the premises, allowing the colleges to resume normal operations after the all-clear was given. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges educational institutions face in maintaining security while responding promptly to potential threats.

The evacuation and subsequent investigation caused significant disruption, but the efficient coordination between college administrations and law enforcement agencies ensured no harm came to students or staff. Authorities are now investigating the source of the email to prevent similar hoaxes in the future.
