Domestic Dispute Sparks Devastating Blaze in Dumka Village, Five Homes Destroyed

A domestic dispute turned catastrophic in the Littipara block of Pakur district, Dumka, when a man allegedly set his own house on fire, triggering an inferno that rapidly consumed four neighboring homes in Chhota Kutlo village on Thursday night. The incident has left the small community reeling from the sudden destruction.

Argument Escalates into Arson and Widespread Damage

According to police reports, the tragedy began when Dhenna Murmu, 35, engaged in a heated argument with his wife, Lukhimuni Tudu. In a fit of rage, Murmu is accused of deliberately setting fire to his thatched house. The flames, fueled by the dry thatch and windy conditions, quickly spread out of control.

The fire rapidly engulfed the adjoining homes of Lakhiram Murmu, Chunus Murmu, and Sonot Murmu, reducing all four structures to ashes within a short period. The total count of destroyed homes reached five, including the accused's own residence, causing extensive property loss for multiple families.

Injuries, Arrest, and Community Response

One neighbor, Chhami Murmu, 50, sustained significant burn injuries during the incident and was immediately rushed to Pakur hospital for emergency treatment. Medical authorities report that she is currently undergoing care, with her condition being closely monitored.

Villagers, upon noticing the spreading flames, made valiant attempts to contain the fire by pouring water and using whatever resources were available. However, their efforts proved futile against the intensity of the blaze, which had already taken firm hold of the thatched structures.

Local police acted swiftly, arresting the accused, Dhenna Murmu, in connection with the arson. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances and motivations behind the destructive act.

Official Response and Compensation Efforts

Sanjay Kumar, the Block Development Officer of Littipara, provided updates on the situation, stating, "The condition of the injured woman is stable and she is receiving appropriate medical attention. Fortunately, the accused's wife and a minor boy present at the scene were not physically harmed in the incident."

Kumar further elaborated on relief measures, confirming that apart from providing immediate interim relief items to the affected families, the administration has initiated the process for suitable compensation through the disaster management department. This compensation aims to help the displaced families rebuild their lives and homes.

The incident has highlighted the vulnerabilities of rural housing structures and the rapid spread of fire in such environments. Community leaders are now discussing fire safety awareness programs to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
