Legal Provisions Invoked

Sections 196(1), 351(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertain to promoting enmity between different groups, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, and statements conducive to public mischief. These provisions are often used in cases involving alleged hate speech or incitement to violence.

The development comes amid heightened political activity in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Banerjee's party, the Trinamool Congress, has not yet issued an official response to the FIR filing.
