Kin Allegedly Steal Gold and Cash While Family Visits Temple
In a shocking incident from Jamla village in Odisha's Bargarh district, a 19-year-old man and a minor have been apprehended for allegedly stealing 390 grams of gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 30 lakh and Rs 40,000 in cash from the house of their own relatives. The burglary took place on Sunday evening when the complainant's family was away on a pilgrimage to the Nrusinghanath temple.
Exploiting Family Absence for Theft
According to police sources, the accused, identified as Jaga Meher (19), and the minor, who was aware of the family's movements, used this knowledge to their advantage. They entered the unoccupied house and made off with the significant cache of valuables. Upon returning home, the family discovered the theft, prompting house owner Chanchal Meher to lodge a formal complaint with the Padampur police late on Sunday evening.
Swift Police Action Leads to Recovery
Acting promptly on a tip-off, a police team tracked down the duo to the Barpali railway station. The arrests were made on Monday as the suspects were allegedly attempting to flee to Tamil Nadu. Superintendent of Police (Bargarh) Prahalad Sahai Meena confirmed the successful operation. "We have recovered all the stolen gold jewellery and the Rs 40,000 cash from them. The bike used in the commission of the burglary has also been seized," stated SP Meena. He further clarified that the accused and the 'child in conflict with law' used their insider knowledge to plan and execute the crime.
While Jaga Meher has been formally arrested, the minor has been detained under the relevant legal procedures. The case highlights a distressing trend of crimes being committed by individuals known to the victims.
