DVAC arrests inspector, accomplice for Rs5,800 bribe in Dindigul

The Dindigul district DVAC officials on Friday arrested a motor vehicle inspector and his accomplice for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs5,800 to issue a fitness certificate for a truck.

Bribe Demand and Complaint

According to sources, a lawyer named Soundararajan, who is engaged in the business of renting out trucks and earthmovers, had submitted an application to obtain a fitness certificate for his friend's truck. A middleman named Hakkim, an employee of a driving school, demanded a bribe of Rs5,800 to issue the certificate.

Soundararajan lodged a complaint with the DVAC, prompting officials to set up a trap. They instructed Soundararajan to hand over the money on Friday.

Arrests Made

Hakkim instructed Soundararajan to give the money to Wahid Ali. When Ali received the money and handed it over to the motor vehicle inspector Shanmuga Anand, the DVAC officials arrested them. The DVAC officials are currently searching for Hakkim, who managed to escape.
