Jaishankar Expresses Gratitude to Oman for Seafarer Assistance
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar paid an official visit to Oman on July 10, 2026, where he met Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi. During the meeting, Jaishankar conveyed India's appreciation for Oman's prompt assistance to Indian seafarers near or at the Strait of Hormuz during increased regional hostilities. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the two ministers reviewed the full spectrum of the India-Oman Strategic Partnership and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Focus Areas of Bilateral Talks
In a post on X, Jaishankar noted that the discussions with Albusaidi focused on trade, investments, connectivity, maritime, technology, defence, and cyber and AI domains. The leaders also had a comprehensive exchange on developments in the Gulf and efforts to ensure peace and stability. Jaishankar also interacted with members of the Indian community in Oman, appreciating their contributions to the multifaceted India-Oman relationship.
Wider Diplomatic Tour
Jaishankar's visit to Oman was part of a multi-nation tour from July 5-10, 2026, which included Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman. Before Oman, he visited Kuwait on July 9, where he met Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. In Kuwait, they discussed the impact of the Gulf conflict and reviewed bilateral cooperation in energy, trade, investments, defence, technology, food security, and health. Jaishankar expressed confidence that the India-Kuwait Strategic Partnership would continue to strengthen.
Upcoming Engagements
Jaishankar is also scheduled to visit New York on July 13 to launch India's campaign for a UN Security Council tenure (2028-29). Subsequently, he will attend the 3rd India-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting and interact with EU and Belgian counterparts in Brussels on July 14-15.
