ED Raids 3 Kolkata Locations in Land Grab Investigation
ED Raids 3 Kolkata Sites in Land Grab Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday carried out searches at three locations in Kolkata in connection with a money laundering investigation stemming from a land grab case. The raids were conducted at premises linked to individuals suspected of involvement in illegal land acquisition and related financial irregularities.

Searches Across Kolkata

According to officials, the searches were initiated under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED team, accompanied by central forces, raided residential and office premises in different parts of the city. The locations included areas in south and north Kolkata, where documents, electronic devices, and incriminating materials were seized.

Case Background

The probe is based on a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Kolkata Police alleging that a group of individuals, including some with political connections, conspired to grab prime land parcels in and around the city. The ED is examining the financial transactions involved in the alleged land grab, which is estimated to involve crores of rupees.

This is not the first such action by the ED in West Bengal. The agency has been actively investigating several cases of alleged land grabbing and financial fraud in the state. In recent months, multiple raids have been conducted in connection with similar cases, leading to the arrest of several accused.

Legal Proceedings

The ED is likely to summon the suspects for questioning in the coming days. The agency will also scrutinize the seized documents to trace the trail of money and identify any benami properties or shell companies used to launder the proceeds of the crime. Further searches cannot be ruled out as the investigation progresses.

The development comes amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal, with opposition parties accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress of shielding those involved in land scams. The ED's actions are seen as part of a broader crackdown on corruption and financial crimes in the state.
