Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In a tragic incident, an 84-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death by his son shortly after a court-ordered handover of a property in Silk Mill Colony on Thursday. The police confirmed the arrest of the suspect later in the evening.
Incident Details
According to crime branch inspector Gajanan Kalyankar, the preliminary investigation suggests that Abdul Rahman Patel, a pharmacist, attacked his father, Jafar Kamruddin Patel, with a sharp-edged weapon after losing possession of the property due to a court order. Jafar Patel's daughter, who attempted to intervene, sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
Court-Ordered Handover
Inspector Krishna Shinde of the Satara police station stated that the handover was carried out lawfully. Officials from the SDM office, accompanied by police personnel, completed the process and handed over possession to Jafar Patel as directed by the court.
After the formalities, the officials and police stepped outside the house. Moments later, Jafar Patel re-entered the premises to ensure it was secured. It was then that Abdul Patel allegedly struck him with a sharp-edged weapon. When Abdul's sister rushed to save her father, she too was assaulted. Hearing the commotion, police personnel rushed back, but the accused had fled by then.
Medical Response and Investigation
Both victims were taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared Jafar Patel dead during treatment. His daughter remains under medical care. A senior officer confirmed that Abdul Patel has since been arrested. Police commissioner Pravin Pawar visited both the hospital and the crime scene as investigators began piecing together the sequence of events.
