An elderly woman allegedly died during a police raid in Siddha village, Nanakmatta, Rudrapur, on Saturday, triggering widespread protests as angry villagers placed her body outside the local police station and demanded immediate action against the personnel involved.

Officials stated that police personnel had arrived at the residence of one Kuldeep Singh in the afternoon to arrest him in connection with a case of eloping with a minor girl earlier in the week. During the execution of the raid, a scuffle reportedly broke out between the police and family members present at the scene. It was during this altercation that Singh's 65-year-old relative, identified as Sukhdev Kaur, allegedly fell.
Family Allegations and Police Response
Family members have leveled serious accusations against the police, claiming that officers forcibly entered the house without presenting a warrant and misbehaved with the occupants. They specifically alleged that the police pushed Sukhdev Kaur during the confrontation, which led directly to her death. "The cops pushed her, causing her to fall. She died on the spot," a family member stated emphatically.
In stark contrast, police authorities have categorically denied all allegations of misconduct. "No misbehaviour took place. They acted within the ambit of the law," an officer asserted. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Ganpati announced that an inquiry has been formally ordered into the incident. "Strict action will be taken if anyone is found guilty," he declared, adding that an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been dispatched to the location to assess the situation firsthand.

Villagers, expressing their anger and grief, transported the deceased woman's body and placed it outside the police station as a form of protest.
