Elderly woman kills son-in-law with grinding stone in Chennai

A 70-year-old woman in Chennai used a grinding stone to fatally strike her son-in-law after he attacked her daughter with the same stone. The incident occurred on Thursday night at Gandhi Nagar First Street near Manimangalam in Kancheepuram district.

Background of the Deceased

The deceased, Dinakaran, 45, worked as a daily wage labourer. According to police reports, he frequently returned home intoxicated and engaged in arguments with family members. Late Thursday night, he had a heated exchange with his wife, Amalrani, while her mother, Vijayalakshmi, was present.

The Attack

During the argument, Dinakaran picked up a grinding stone and hurled it at his wife in an attempt to kill her. Amalrani narrowly escaped the attack. Enraged by this act, Vijayalakshmi grabbed the same stone and struck Dinakaran on the head with it. He collapsed unconscious outside the house, and the women left him there.

Police Investigation

Upon receiving information, Manimangalam police arrived at the scene on Friday morning. They sent Dinakaran's body to Chromepet Government Hospital for postmortem examination. Vijayalakshmi has been arrested on charges of murder. The case is under investigation.
