75-Year-Old Woman Bravely Foils Chain-Snatching Attempt in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
In a remarkable display of courage, a 75-year-old woman successfully thwarted a chain-snatching attempt in the Jyoti Nagar area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Sunday morning. The incident occurred as Mohini Joshi was on her way to have darshan at the Mahadev temple on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri.
Confrontation with Snatchers
According to Joshi, two individuals on a motorcycle slowed down as they approached her. The pillion rider attempted to snatch her gold-plated chain, but she resisted fiercely. "I hit him on his hand and pushed him away," Joshi recounted. Her quick actions and loud shouting caused the duo to flee the scene immediately, leaving the chain intact.
Immediate Response and Warning
Following the incident, Joshi took the initiative to self-record a video, alerting other residents of Jyoti Nagar to remain vigilant. Her nephew, Rahul Joshi, praised her presence of mind, stating, "She confronted the chain snatchers and foiled their bid to steal her chain. The chain she was wearing has special memories associated with it, making her actions even more commendable."
Police Action and Investigation
The Osmanpura police were promptly informed and visited the spot where the attempted theft occurred. Bhagwan Jagtap, a police official, confirmed that patrolling has been intensified in the area as a precautionary measure. "We have increased patrolling after the incident. An offence will be registered once a formal complaint is filed by Joshi or her relatives," Jagtap stated.
This incident highlights the growing concerns over street crimes in urban areas and underscores the importance of community awareness. Joshi's bravery serves as an inspiration, demonstrating that age is no barrier to standing up against criminal activities.
