Elderly Woman Tied Up and Robbed at Knifepoint in Chennai Home Invasion

In a shocking incident that has rattled the local community, a 65-year-old partially paralyzed woman was subjected to a terrifying home invasion in the early hours of Wednesday. The victim, identified as Kausalya, was tied up and threatened at knifepoint by three unidentified men who made off with a significant amount of gold jewelry from her residence in Varadarajapuram, located near Mudichur in Chennai.

Details of the Terrifying Ordeal

According to police reports, Kausalya resides with her son Padmanaban, his wife Indhumathi, and their 11-year-old son in Rayappan Nagar. At the time of the incident, the family circumstances played a crucial role in leaving the elderly woman vulnerable. Indhumathi had recently taken their son to her parents' home for the summer holidays, while Padmanaban was away working his night shift at a company in Sriperumbudur.

The break-in occurred around 1:30 AM when the three perpetrators forcibly entered the home. They immediately confronted Kausalya, brandishing a knife and issuing threats to ensure her compliance. The assailants proceeded to snatch the jewelry she was wearing personally, then systematically ransacked the premises.

Systematic Theft and Escape

The intruders showed methodical intent as they broke open cupboards in two separate bedrooms, gathering gold ornaments estimated to be approximately 25 sovereigns in weight. In addition to the precious metals, they also stole Kausalya's mobile phone, potentially to hinder any immediate calls for help.

Before making their escape, the men took the additional step of tying Kausalya's hands behind her back, leaving her immobilized and traumatized. She remained in this distressing state until her son returned from work around 8:00 AM the following morning.

"When Padmanaban arrived home, he discovered the front door broken open and his mother on the bed, visibly shaken and crying," police officials stated, describing the scene that greeted the returning family member.

Police Investigation Underway

Following a formal complaint lodged by the family, the Somangalam police have initiated a comprehensive inquiry into the brazen robbery. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including potential leads based on the stolen items and any forensic evidence left at the scene.

An intriguing detail that has emerged from the preliminary investigation reveals that the family had previously pledged their gold ornaments at a bank, only redeeming them recently. This timing factor may provide important context for the motive behind the targeted theft.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or suspicious activities in the Varadarajapuram area to come forward as they work to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for this violent crime against a vulnerable elderly resident.
