An email bomb threat targeting the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation office and the residence of popular Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh has triggered a high-level security alert in the city. The threat, received on Tuesday, prompted immediate action from local authorities, including a thorough search and investigation by the police.
Details of the Threat
The threatening email was sent to the official email address of the Municipal Corporation, warning of explosives placed at both the corporation building and Dosanjh's house. The sender's identity remains unknown, and the email did not specify a motive. Police officials stated that the message appeared to be a hoax, but all protocols were followed to ensure public safety.
Response by Authorities
Upon receiving the threat, the Municipal Corporation staff alerted the police, who quickly cordoned off the areas. Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs were deployed to scan the premises. After a thorough inspection, no suspicious objects were found. The police have registered a case and are tracing the origin of the email.
Diljit Dosanjh, who is currently out of town, was informed about the threat. His family members were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The singer's residence was declared safe after the search operation concluded.
Investigation Underway
Senior police officials stated that the cyber cell is investigating the email's source. Preliminary findings suggest the email may have been sent from a foreign IP address using a VPN. The police are also looking into similar threats reported in other parts of the state to ascertain any possible links.
This incident has raised concerns about security in Ludhiana, especially with upcoming events and the festive season. The police have advised citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
