Phone Hacked, Impersonation Attempt
The phone of Pratibha Singh, former president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC), has been hacked. Fraudsters are allegedly using her identity to demand money from unsuspecting individuals. Her son, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh, confirmed the incident and urged people not to respond to any calls or messages originating from her phone number.
Complaint Filed with Cyber Cell
Vikramaditya Singh stated that a formal complaint has been lodged with the concerned officer in the police department's Cyber Cell. The minister shared a post on Facebook warning the public about the scam. He emphasized that the hacker is misusing his mother's identity to solicit money and advised everyone to exercise caution.
Rising Cybercrime in Himachal Pradesh
This incident highlights the growing threat of cybercrime in the state. According to officials, the Cyber Cell in Himachal Pradesh receives approximately 250 to 300 complaints daily over the past couple of years. The frequency of such crimes underscores the need for heightened digital vigilance and robust cybersecurity measures.
Pratibha Singh, a prominent Congress leader and wife of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, has not yet issued a personal statement. The investigation into the hacking is ongoing, and authorities are working to trace the fraudsters. Vikramaditya Singh urged anyone who has received suspicious messages from his mother's number to report them immediately to the Cyber Cell.
