Ex-MLA Bhunia seeks anticipatory bail in job scam case

Kolkata: Former Sabang MLA and minister Manas Ranjan Bhunia has approached a district court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a cash-for-job scam. The court is scheduled to hear the matter on June 18.

Case Background

The case originates from a complaint filed on June 10 by local resident Bikash Tung. Tung alleged that his wife paid Rs 5 lakh to secure a job ahead of the assembly elections. However, she was abruptly terminated via WhatsApp on May 6.

Legal Action

The police have registered a case under BNS Sections 318(4) and 61(2) against Bhunia, Zilla Parishad member Sheikh Abu Kalam Box, and Bhola Nath De.

Denying the allegations, Bhunia stated, “I have done no such thing.”
