Deportation and Arrest at Delhi Airport

Gaurav, a resident of Tahri village in Yamunanagar district, was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi after being deported from the United States in connection with a Rs 1-crore extortion case. The arrest took place about 1.5 years after the crime was reported.

Complaint and Threat

Shiv Kumar, a commission agent at Vyaspur grain market in Yamunanagar district, lodged a complaint with Vyaspur police on December 22, 2024. He alleged that on December 19, 2024, he received a threatening call demanding Rs 1 crore, with dire consequences if the money was not paid.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Vinod Kumar, SHO of Vyaspur police station, stated that Gaurav had fled to the US after the incident. Following his deportation, police received information about his arrival at Delhi airport and arrested him. During the operation, police recovered Gaurav's passport, some US currency, and bank cards.

Earlier, police had arrested other suspects in the case, including Harpreet, Gurpreet Singh, and Dipesh Sharma. A car, motorcycles, and several mobile phones allegedly used in the crime were also recovered.

Links to Organized Crime

According to Vyaspur police, Gaurav allegedly demanded extortion money posing as an associate of the Goldy Brar gang. Police are questioning Gaurav to gather further information about the extortion racket and possible links with organized crime.

Court Remand

After his arrest, Gaurav was produced in a court at Jagadhri on Friday, which remanded him to three days of police custody.
