The Delhi Police have uncovered a meticulously planned robbery conspiracy involving a fake bite mark, leading to the arrest of three individuals, including two employees of the victim's advertising and newspaper publishing business. The accused allegedly staged a robbery to steal Rs 37.5 lakh from their employer, according to police officials.
How the Fake Bite Mark Unraveled the Plot
The incident came to light when the co-owner of the company reported being attacked and robbed of the cash. However, during the investigation, police noticed inconsistencies in the victim's statement, particularly a bite mark on his hand. Forensic analysis revealed the bite mark was self-inflicted, contradicting the robbery narrative.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Rajesh Kumar stated, "The victim initially claimed he was assaulted by unknown assailants who stole the money. But the bite mark appeared unnatural, and further questioning exposed the conspiracy."
Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
On Friday, police arrested three suspects: the co-owner who faked the bite mark, and two employees of the company. The trio had conspired to stage the robbery to misappropriate the funds. Police are now searching for other accomplices who may have assisted in the plan.
According to the FIR, the cash was meant for business transactions. The accused planned to share the stolen money among themselves. "The employees were aware of the cash movement and helped execute the fake attack," added DCP Kumar.
Details of the Conspiracy
The robbery was reported on July 9, 2026, when the co-owner claimed he was ambushed near his office in south Delhi. He alleged that assailants bit his hand and fled with a bag containing Rs 37.5 lakh. Police initially registered a case of robbery and assault.
However, during the probe, CCTV footage revealed no suspicious activity, and the co-owner's behavior raised red flags. A forensic team examined the bite mark and concluded it was self-inflicted, likely using his own teeth. Under sustained interrogation, the co-owner confessed to the conspiracy.
"The accused admitted that they needed money and thought staging a robbery would be an easy way to get it without raising suspicion," said a police officer familiar with the case.
Impact and Legal Proceedings
The arrests have brought the immediate conspiracy to light, but police continue to investigate the full extent of the plan. The accused have been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including criminal conspiracy and cheating.
This case highlights the increasing sophistication of staged crimes and the role of forensic science in uncovering truth. "The bite mark was the key evidence that broke the case. Without it, the conspiracy might have succeeded," noted forensic expert Dr. Anjali Sharma.
The three arrested individuals are currently in police custody, and further interrogations are underway to identify other involved parties.
