Woman Impersonates Doctor to Steal Gold from Hospital Patient in Secunderabad
A shocking incident of theft unfolded at a corporate hospital in Secunderabad, Hyderabad, where a woman posing as a doctor allegedly stole gold ornaments from a patient after administering an injection. The brazen crime occurred on Wednesday, leaving the victim unconscious and her family in distress.
Details of the Deceptive Theft
According to Monda Market inspector Ramchander, the victim, Sudha Rani, 37, was recently admitted to the hospital for medical treatment and was awaiting discharge on the day of the incident. At that critical moment, a woman wearing a doctor's white apron and stethoscope entered the patient's room. She instructed Sudha Rani's relatives to step outside, claiming she needed to administer an injection to the patient.
Shortly after giving the injection, the woman left the room without raising any suspicion. When the relatives returned, they found Sudha Rani unconscious and immediately noticed that gold ornaments weighing approximately 10 tolas were missing from her possession. The theft was executed with precision, exploiting the trust typically afforded to medical professionals in a hospital setting.
Police Investigation Underway
Inspector Ramchander confirmed that a formal case has been registered in connection with the theft. Police are actively analysing CCTV footage from the hospital and surrounding areas to identify the suspect. The accused is described as a woman in her mid-30s who used the disguise of a medical professional to gain access to the patient and commit the crime.
"The accused appears to be a woman in her mid-30s. She allegedly posed as a doctor by wearing a white apron and a stethoscope to gain the victim's trust before committing the theft. We are examining CCTV footage and checking our records for similar incidents involving the same modus operandi," the inspector stated. This method of operation suggests a calculated plan to target vulnerable patients in healthcare facilities.
Broader Implications and Community Alert
This incident highlights significant security concerns within hospital environments, where patients and their families often feel safe. The theft not only resulted in financial loss but also posed a serious risk to the victim's health due to the unauthorized injection. Authorities are urging hospitals to enhance verification protocols for staff and visitors to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Police are also reviewing past records to determine if similar crimes have been committed by the same individual or group. The investigation aims to bring the perpetrator to justice and recover the stolen gold ornaments, valued significantly given current market rates. Community members are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in medical facilities immediately.
