Trinamool Congress leader Jahangir Khan has been sent to five days of police custody after his arrest near the India-Nepal border in North Bengal's Panitanki area. Seven FIRs have been registered against him at Falta Police Station.
Court Appearance Under Heavy Security
Khan was produced before the Diamond Harbour court under heavy security arrangements. Public entry was restricted during the hearing. After local lawyers declined to represent him, the court appointed a legal aid advocate.
High Court Vacated Protection
The Calcutta High Court had earlier vacated the protection granted to Khan, paving the way for his arrest. The strongman was paraded in shorts by the police after being taken into custody.
