The family of a 20-year-old youth, who was stabbed to death in the Daria area of Chandigarh, has refused to allow his postmortem examination until the accused are apprehended by the police. The victim, identified as Suraj, was attacked by five individuals with sharp-edged weapons on Tuesday night.
Family Protests at Police Post
On Wednesday, Suraj's family members, along with local residents, gathered at the Daria police post, raising slogans against the police. They alleged that law enforcement had failed to arrest the killers even 24 hours after the crime had been committed. Police post in-charge Ravdeep attempted to pacify the agitated crowd, repeatedly assuring them that the accused would be arrested soon.
Father's Account of the Incident
Suraj's father, Mukesh, claimed that his son was returning home after finishing his work shift as usual when five youths attacked him with sharp-edged weapons. Mukesh expressed confusion, stating that the family still could not understand why Suraj was murdered. However, police officials said their preliminary investigation suggested an old rivalry as the motive behind the incident.
Mother Demands Death Penalty
Suraj's mother has demanded that the killers be given the death penalty. According to the family, Suraj worked as a helper in a theatre company in Chandigarh. They revealed that his mother had been unwell for a long time, forcing Suraj to start working at a young age to support the family.
Graphic Video Surfaces
A 55-second video of the incident has surfaced, showing the five attackers assaulting Suraj with a sharp-edged weapon, as well as kicking and punching him. The footage captures the attackers grabbing Suraj by his hair and stabbing him in the chest, back, and stomach. Some attackers were seen jumping in the air and kicking him in the face. Suraj's shirt was torn from the back, and his entire body was drenched in blood.
In the video, Suraj is seen pleading with the attackers to let him go, but they continued stabbing him without stopping. Eventually, Suraj managed to free himself and attempted to run. According to eyewitnesses, he collapsed after walking just a few steps, after which the attackers stabbed him again.
Police Investigation
Police officials stated that they are actively investigating the case and have identified some suspects. They are analyzing the video footage and collecting evidence to build a strong case. The family's refusal to allow the postmortem has delayed the legal process, but authorities are working to resolve the situation.
