Bengaluru Man Reunites with Family After Four-Day Train Journey Disappearance
After four days of intense uncertainty and widespread social media concern, complainant Sumit Kumar has been reunited with his wife, children, and sister, who had gone missing during their train journey from Bengaluru to Delhi. The emotional reunion brings closure to a case that captured public attention and involved multiple agencies.
Details of the Disappearance and Reunion
Sumit Kumar, approximately 40 years old and a native of Panipat district in Haryana, took to social media platform X on Monday to announce that he had reunited with his wife Sushma, his sister (whose identity remains undisclosed), and their two children, Anaya and Pradyumn. However, he provided no specific details regarding the circumstances of their disappearance or the methods used to track them down.
The family had embarked on their journey aboard the Karnataka Express, departing from KSR Bengaluru station at 7:20 PM on March 25, a Wednesday. When Sumit posted about his missing family on Sunday, the incident quickly gained traction online, with social media flooded with reposts, reshares, and calls for amplification to aid in the search efforts.
Official Involvement and Confusion
The railway ministry and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) were promptly alerted to the situation. In a subsequent post on Sunday night, Sumit mentioned that his family was last seen in CCTV footage recovered from the Karol Bagh Metro station in New Delhi. Despite these developments, RPF officers reported that Sumit was not answering their calls, leading to doubts due to inconsistencies in the information received via social media.
Shreyans Chinchawade, senior divisional safety commissioner, commented on the case, stating, "There has been a lot of confusion in this case. For any distressed situation, calls for help should be raised through official social media handles of police or the agency concerned for better authentication. It will also help in inter-agency coordination. For any issues related to railways, it is encouraged to use 139 helplines."
Relative's Account Sheds Light on the Incident
When contacted by TOI, a relative of Sumit based in Delhi offered insights into the situation. The relative claimed that Sumit had actually traveled with his family on the train to the national capital. "Actually, such small things happen; he got upset over a minor argument. It wasn't (anything big). His wife doesn't have a phone; there is only one phone in the house," the relative explained.
He further added, "An argument could have happened on the train itself, and because of that, he must have left quickly from there and got separated from the rest of his family. We started searching at the railway station itself; there was no one at home, it was locked. So, he (Sumit) was worried where they could have gone." According to this relative, the family had already reunited at their Delhi home well before Sumit uploaded his second post confirming their presence at the Metro station.
This account suggests that the disappearance may have stemmed from a simple misunderstanding or emotional reaction during the journey, rather than any malicious intent or external threat. The reunion highlights the importance of clear communication and official channels in such distress situations to avoid unnecessary panic and confusion.
