The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Faridabad has arrested a head constable posted at the Sector 7 police chowki on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 2,500 for the release of a seized motorcycle. The accused, identified as Head Constable Ranbir, was caught red-handed during a trap laid by the ACB on Saturday morning. An FIR has been registered at the ACB police station.
Background of the Case
According to the ACB, the complainant, Somdutt, reported his motorcycle missing from the Sector 7 area on May 4. The vehicle was financed, and some instalments were overdue. When Somdutt could not locate his motorcycle, he lodged a complaint with the police.
During the inquiry, it emerged that the motorcycle had not been stolen. Employees of the finance company had seized it and parked it at their yard in Sikri due to the pending instalments. The police later brought the motorcycle to the police station and informed the complainant.
The Bribery Demand
It is alleged that when Somdutt went to collect the vehicle, Head Constable Ranbir demanded money from him. Over the past three to four days, the head constable repeatedly demanded a bribe. Frustrated by the persistent demands, Somdutt approached the ACB and lodged a complaint.
The ACB verified the complaint and decided to lay a trap. On Saturday morning, the complainant was given Rs 2,500 and sent to the police station. As soon as the head constable accepted the money and put it in his pocket, the ACB team, which was waiting outside, swooped in and caught him red-handed.
Investigation Underway
A senior ACB official confirmed that the accused is being questioned. The investigation is ongoing to determine if there are any other individuals involved in the bribery racket. The ACB has assured that strict action will be taken against the accused as per the law.
