Farm Labourer Dies After Touching Live Wire in Mandya

A tragic incident occurred in Sakshibidu village of Akkihebbalu Hobli in KR Pet taluk, Mandya district, on Sunday, where a 28-year-old farm labourer lost his life after accidentally coming into contact with a live electricity wire while harvesting tender coconuts.

Victim Identified

The deceased has been identified as Abhishek, son of Govindegowda and Susheelamma, residents of Sakshibidu village. He was engaged in harvesting tender coconuts by climbing palm trees, a job through which he supported his family.

Details of the Incident

According to sources, the incident occurred while Abhishek was carrying out routine work on a coconut tree located near an overhead electricity line. While trying to pluck coconuts, he accidentally touched the live wire running close to the tree and suffered a severe electric shock. He lost consciousness immediately.

Villagers and co-workers rushed to his aid and shifted him to KR Pet taluk public hospital for emergency treatment. However, despite the efforts of doctors, he could not be saved, police said. After postmortem, the body was handed over to the family members.

Legal Action

A case of accidental death was registered at KR Pet Rural police station, and further investigation is ongoing.
