In a tragic series of events, two separate road accidents in Udupi district have resulted in the deaths of a car driver and an autorickshaw driver, highlighting ongoing concerns about traffic safety in the region.

Car-Truck Collision on NH-66 Claims Life of Shreyas Achar

A fatal collision occurred on the Mangaluru-Udupi National Highway 66 at Pangala in Kaup taluk during the early hours of Friday. According to the police complaint filed by truck driver Manjunath Gowda from Ron taluk, the incident took place at approximately 12:30 AM while he was driving towards Udupi.

Shreyas Achar, the car driver, was reportedly operating his vehicle recklessly from Mangaluru towards Udupi when it collided with the left rear side of Gowda's truck. The impact caused severe damage to the front right side of the car, trapping Achar in the driver's seat. He sustained critical head injuries in the crash.

Two other occupants of the car, identified as Darwin and Surya, suffered minor injuries and were promptly transported to the government hospital in Udupi for medical treatment. Despite efforts by medical personnel, doctors at the hospital examined Achar and declared him dead upon arrival.

Authorities have registered a case at the Kaup police station, and investigations into the exact circumstances of the accident are currently underway.

Autorickshaw Overturns in Belthangady, Killing Driver Devappa

In a separate incident on Thursday, an autorickshaw driver lost his life after his vehicle overturned at Badagakaranduru village in Belthangady taluk. The deceased has been identified as Devappa, a 35-year-old resident.

Preliminary reports indicate that a dog suddenly appeared in front of the autorickshaw, prompting Devappa to apply the brakes abruptly. This sudden maneuver caused the vehicle to lose control and overturn, resulting in a serious accident.

The driver was trapped under the overturned autorickshaw, sustaining significant injuries to his face, left hand, chest area, and legs. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors declared Devappa dead upon examination.

The Venoor Police have registered a case in connection with this incident, and further details are being ascertained as part of the ongoing investigation.

These back-to-back tragedies have raised alarms about road safety measures in Udupi district. Local authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, especially during nighttime hours and in areas with potential wildlife hazards.
