Fatehgarh Sahib DCPU seeks help to reunite abandoned boy

The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) of Fatehgarh Sahib has issued a public appeal for assistance in locating the parents or guardians of a six-year-old boy who was found abandoned in Mandi Gobindgarh nearly two weeks ago. The child, who identifies himself as “Babul,” was discovered near Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi on June 25, according to District Child Protection Officer Harbhajan Singh Mahimi.

Details of the Discovery

Mahimi stated that the DCPU received a report from the Mandi Gobindgarh police station on June 25 regarding an unidentified child found in an abandoned condition. The boy was taken into protective custody and is currently under the care of the DCPU. Officials have been unable to locate any family members or guardians since his recovery.

Public Appeal for Information

“The child is safe and being provided with necessary care, but we are eager to reunite him with his family,” Mahimi said. He urged anyone with information about the child or his family to contact the District Child Protection Unit, Fatehgarh Sahib, immediately. The helpline number 99143-10010 has been made available for tips. The DCPU is also coordinating with local police and child welfare committees to trace the boy’s origins.

Community Response and Next Steps

The appeal has been shared through local media and social networks in the hope that someone may recognize Babul. If no leads emerge, the DCPU will follow legal procedures for declaring the child as abandoned and seek foster or adoption options. However, the primary goal remains family reunification. The case underscores the ongoing challenge of child abandonment in the region and the critical role of community vigilance.
