In a major development, Fatehpur police on Tuesday arrested one of the prime accused in connection with a triple suicide case that occurred in March this year. The arrest was made in Mathura-Vrindavan, as confirmed by police officials.
Rahul Srivastava, the accused, was wanted in the Fatehpur tragedy in which the bodies of Sushila Srivastava (55), her son Amar Srivastava (28), and her brother-in-law Sunil Kumar Srivastava (54) were found inside their house in Chauferava village under Kotwali police station limits on March 12.
Investigators found multiple empty pouches of sulfas and four blood-stained blades at the spot. A suicide note, reportedly written by one of the victims, mentioned that the family had to take the extreme step due to threats of being falsely implicated under the SC/ST Act over a financial transaction. The note alleged sustained pressure and intimidation by a group of people.
Police had earlier arrested three accused in the case, while Rahul Srivastava, described as one of the prime accused, remained absconding. A cash reward of Rs 50,000 had been announced for information leading to his arrest.
Cops had been making intensive efforts to apprehend him. His activities were under surveillance through various channels. The accused had filed applications for anticipatory bail and regular bail in various courts, most notably in the Allahabad High Court, but these were rejected through effective legal representation by the police.
Pursuing this line of investigation, the police received a crucial tip-off indicating that Rahul was residing with his family in the Mathura-Vrindavan area. Acting swiftly, the Fatehpur police executed a meticulously planned operation and successfully arrested him.
