Ludhiana Police File Rape Case Against Father for Assaulting College-Going Daughter
In a shocking incident from Ludhiana, Punjab, police have registered a case against a 50-year-old man for the alleged rape of his 21-year-old daughter, who is a student at a private college. The survivor, whose identity is protected, detailed a harrowing sequence of events leading to the formal complaint.
Survivor's Account and Family Background
The young woman informed authorities that her elder sister is married, while her other siblings—a brother and a sister—reside and pursue their education in their native state. Her mother had joined them in November last year, leaving her alone with her father in Ludhiana. This isolation set the stage for the alleged abuse.
Escalation of Harassment Leading to Assault
According to the complainant, the accused, often returning home intoxicated, had previously attempted to molest her, with the survivor resisting his advances. She reported these incidents to her mother, but the harassment persisted, with her father repeatedly accosting her while drunk. The situation culminated on the night of February 8, when their landlord was away, and she was alone at home.
Between 8 PM and 9 PM that evening, her father allegedly raped her. The survivor recounted that she tried to scream for help, but he forcibly silenced her by pressing his hand over her mouth. The next day, at her college, friends noticed her distressed state and inquired about her well-being.
Reporting the Crime and Police Response
After confiding in her friends about the assault, they encouraged her to seek legal recourse. She then contacted the police helpline from the college premises. A woman police officer promptly arrived, recorded her detailed statement, and initiated proceedings.
A case has been officially registered against the accused under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to rape. Investigating Officer, ASI Rajinder Singh, confirmed that the accused remains at large, with ongoing raids to apprehend him. The police are actively pursuing leads to ensure his swift arrest and bring justice to the survivor.
