Father Allegedly Beheads Six-Year-Old Daughter on Moving Train in Assam
In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves across Assam, a six-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her father inside a moving train in Lakhimpur district. Police confirmed the arrest of the accused, identified as Sunil Murmu, shortly after authorities were alerted to the brutal crime.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The accused, Sunil Murmu, was travelling with his daughter, Sumi, in a general coach of the Dekargaon–Murkongselek Express, according to a Government Railway Police officer. They had boarded the train from Biswanath Chariali city, with very few passengers on board at the time.
Sunil Murmu was carrying a machete and reportedly creating a disturbance inside the train. Nearby passengers, alarmed by his erratic behaviour, moved to other compartments for safety. In a gruesome turn of events, he then used the weapon to behead his young daughter. Police have since recovered the machete from him as evidence.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The incident occurred moments before the train reached Silonibari railway station. Upon arrival, police swiftly responded, recording statements from witnesses and taking custody of the body. The train departed the station at 10:58 am after the initial procedures were completed.
Authorities stated that the motive behind the killing has not yet been established, and the accused is currently under interrogation. Sunil Murmu and his daughter were residents of Assam's Dhemaji district, adding a layer of local tragedy to the case.
Legal Proceedings and Family Involvement
Following the incident, the accused's brother filed a formal complaint, leading the Government Railway Police to register a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This legal action underscores the severity of the crime and the ongoing judicial process.
Police confirmed that Sunil Murmu will be produced before the chief judicial magistrate court in Lakhimpur for further legal proceedings. The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover the reasons behind this appalling act of violence.
