Land Dispute Turns Fatal in West Champaran Village
A long-standing family conflict over land division escalated into a deadly confrontation in West Champaran district on Friday morning, resulting in one fatality and two serious injuries. The incident occurred at Bhitaha-Mathia village under the jurisdiction of the Bairia police station.
Details of the Tragic Incident
According to police reports, the altercation involved family members and centered around a property dispute that had been simmering for an extended period. The deceased has been identified as Vijay Patel, 40, who was allegedly attacked with an iron spear during the violent confrontation.
Two other family members sustained serious injuries in the attack. Akhilesh Patel, 38, and Kamlesh Patel, 35, both brothers of the deceased, were rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Bettiah where they are currently undergoing medical treatment for their injuries.
Family Conflict Over Property Division
The victim's mother provided crucial details about the background of the dispute. She stated that her husband, Suresh Patel, along with their elder son Ajay Patel and his children, carried out the violent attack. The conflict reportedly stemmed from disagreements over the division of family property, with the father allegedly unwilling to allocate a share of land to his younger son.
Tensions reached a breaking point on Friday morning when Suresh and Ajay allegedly blocked the pathway in front of the family residence. This action triggered an argument that quickly escalated into physical violence. During the altercation, Vijay Patel was fatally attacked with an iron spear and died at the scene. His brothers, who attempted to intervene and stop the violence, were also injured in the process.

Following the violent incident, the accused father, elder brother, and nephews fled the scene. Bettiah SDPO-2 Rajnish Priyadarshi confirmed that the tragedy resulted from a land dispute between family members.
"A clash broke out between the father and son, leading to the death of one person," Priyadarshi stated. "Police have launched a thorough investigation and are conducting extensive raids to locate and arrest the accused individuals involved in this tragic family dispute."
The police have registered a case and are pursuing multiple leads to apprehend those responsible for the violence. The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the complete sequence of events that led to this family tragedy.
