In a brazen daylight attack that has sent shockwaves through the community, a 45-year-old man and his son were brutally gunned down by unidentified assailants in Sonepat's Kharkhoda area on Tuesday.
The horrific incident occurred around 4:30 PM near the bustling Kharkhoda bus stand, where the victims were ambushed by motorcycle-borne shooters. Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots that triggered panic among shopkeepers and pedestrians in the crowded market area.
Victims Identified as Local Residents
The deceased have been identified as Rajesh Kumar (45) and his son Ankit (22), both residents of the same locality. According to preliminary investigations, the father-son duo was returning from work when they were intercepted by the assailants near Hanuman Mandir road.
"The attackers came prepared and executed the shooting with chilling precision," said a senior police official investigating the case. "They fired multiple rounds at close range before fleeing the scene on their motorcycle."
Police Launch Intensive Manhunt
Local police immediately cordoned off the area and launched a massive search operation to nab the perpetrators. Forensic teams have collected crucial evidence from the crime scene, including empty bullet casings.
Sonepat Superintendent of Police, Rahul Sharma, confirmed that multiple police teams have been formed to investigate all possible angles. "We are exploring all motives including personal enmity and business rivalry. The investigation is progressing rapidly and we expect breakthroughs soon," the SP assured.

The double murder has left the Kharkhoda community traumatized, with local markets shutting down early and residents demanding enhanced security measures. Neighbors described the victims as "peace-loving" and "hard-working" individuals who ran a small business in the area.
