In a chilling incident that has left the community in shock, a father-son duo fell victim to a brutal daylight shooting in Haryana's Sonepat district on Tuesday. The brazen attack has raised alarming questions about public safety in the region.
The horrific incident unfolded around 2:30 PM near Murthal on the Gohana-Sonepat road, where unidentified assailants opened fire on 45-year-old Rajender and his 22-year-old son Ankit. Both victims were residents of Khewla village in Gohana and were reportedly traveling when the attack occurred.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos and terror as multiple gunshots rang out in the busy area. "The attackers showed complete disregard for public safety and executed the shooting in full public view," said a local shopkeeper who preferred to remain anonymous.
Immediate Aftermath and Police Response
Local authorities swiftly responded to the scene, cordoning off the area and launching a comprehensive investigation. Sonepat police have registered a case and are pursuing multiple leads to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Police Commissioner Surendra Singh confirmed that forensic teams have collected crucial evidence from the crime scene. "We are exploring all possible angles, including personal enmity and previous criminal disputes. Our teams are working round the clock to solve this case," he stated.
Community in Mourning
The double murder has sent shockwaves through Khewla village and surrounding areas. Family members and neighbors described Rajender and Ankit as well-respected members of their community.
"This is absolutely terrifying. How can such incidents happen in broad daylight? We demand immediate justice and enhanced security measures in our area," expressed a distraught relative of the victims.
The incident has prompted calls for increased police patrolling and stronger law enforcement presence in the region, particularly along highway areas that have witnessed similar crimes in the past.
