Major FIR Registered Following Violent Clash at Hathras Police Station
In a significant development, authorities in Agra have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against more than 100 named and unnamed individuals. This legal action comes in response to a violent incident of stone-pelting that targeted the Mursan police station located in Hathras. Police officials confirmed on Tuesday that the confrontation led to the arrest of 26 people, which notably included 12 women.
Violence Erupts After Tragic Hit-and-Run Accident
The chain of events that culminated in the police station attack began on Sunday evening. The catalyst was a devastating hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a two-and-a-half-year-old child named Yash. The young boy, who was playing outside his home in the Madhaiya locality of Mursan, was tragically run over by an SUV.
Despite immediate efforts to save him—being taken first to a private hospital, then referred to Bagla Hospital in the city, and subsequently transferred to Aligarh for advanced treatment—Yash succumbed to his severe injuries during the journey.
Escalation of Public Anger and Police Response
Although police acted swiftly by detaining the accused driver and registering a case against him, this did not quell the rising public outrage. A large and agitated crowd of local residents gathered outside the Mursan police station, eventually resorting to pelting stones at the building and personnel.
This violent outburst resulted in injuries to several police officers and caused significant damage to property within the police station premises. In response, senior officials deployed additional police forces to the area. Their primary objectives were to bring the volatile situation under control and prevent any further escalation of community tension.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigations
Senior Superintendent of Police Chiranjiv Nath Sinha provided details on the legal measures being taken. "A case under multiple sections, including Section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, has been registered in this matter," stated SP Sinha. He further emphasized that police teams are actively conducting multiple raids across the region. These operations are focused on locating and arresting the remaining accused individuals who were involved in the violent protest.
The registration of the FIR against such a large number of persons underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating this incident of public violence against a law enforcement institution.
