Bareilly: An FIR has been registered against unidentified vendors and users of banned Chinese manjha (glass-coated kite string) on charges of attempted murder after the string slashed a 15-year-old boy’s neck, causing critical injuries, near the busy Shyamganj flyover on Monday evening.
Officials said Aditya Veer Gangwar, nephew of sugarcane minister Sanjay Gangwar and son of Pilibhit’s Lalauri Khera block pramukh Ajay Veer Singh Gangwar, was riding his electric scooter toward a stadium in Gandhi Udyan for his morning run when the razor-sharp synthetic thread slashed his neck as he descended the flyover. In an attempt to free himself, he suffered deep cuts on his lips, ears and hands, lost control of the vehicle and crashed. He and his friend rode themselves to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Based on a written complaint filed by sub-inspector Yogesh Kumar Lokhana, an FIR was registered under BNS section 109 (attempt to murder) at Baradari police station. Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya said, “We will take strict action against those selling banned strings.”
MLA Gangwar directed district magistrate Avinash Singh and SSP Arya to ensure no Chinese manjha is sold in the district. Police conducted raids across Bareilly throughout the day, but no such material was recovered.
