FIR Filed Against Doctors in Jalaun Medical College Violence Case
Kanpur: Police in Orai have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Dr Aaradhya Nagaich and 30-40 unidentified junior and senior doctors in connection with alleged violence at the Government Medical College in Jalaun, Orai. The case was filed based on a complaint by the family of the victim, Brajkishor Gupta. Circle Officer (CO) Rajeev Kumar Sharma has initiated an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the incident.
Details of the Complaint
According to the complaint, Gupta had brought his daughter Smriti to the medical college for treatment after she sustained serious injuries from a fall at home. While at the emergency ward, Gupta protested over a delay in preparing the prescription slip. It is alleged that duty doctor Aaradhya Nagaich pushed him to the ground. When Gupta's son Gopal raised objections, other doctors present became aggressive, allegedly abusing and assaulting him. The family claims that 30-40 doctors attacked them with chairs and sticks, leaving Gopal seriously injured.
The victim's side also alleged assault and death threats, even in the presence of police. CO Sharma stated that following the incident, police registered the case based on the written complaint and commenced a thorough investigation.
Sequence of Events
Smriti had slipped and fallen at home on Monday, sustaining serious injuries. Her family brought her to the medical college for treatment. It is alleged that the doctors first asked them to get a prescription slip made, while the injured young woman was writhing in pain. The family members stated that obtaining the prescription slip took 15-20 minutes. During this time, they pleaded with the staff to begin treatment immediately, but no one paid heed.
In the meantime, Gupta allegedly called BJP MLA from Urai Sadar, Gauri Shankar Verma, informed him about the matter, and sought his help in getting treatment. According to the victim's family, after the MLA's call, the medical college staff and junior doctors became angry. The injured young woman's brother requested the doctors to begin primary treatment until the prescription slip was prepared, but the doctors refused to provide treatment without the slip. This led to an argument between both sides, which further escalated the situation.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify all individuals involved in the incident.
