The FIR reveals that the explosion took place in a moving car, which then triggered a chain reaction causing over a dozen surrounding vehicles to catch fire. The charges include Sections 16/18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), along with Sections 3/4 of the Explosive Substances Act. Additionally, the accused face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder, attempted murder, and criminal conspiracy.
Investigators have revealed that shortly after the explosion, the Police Control Room received two crucial distress calls. The first call came at approximately 6:52 PM from a constable stationed at the Red Fort police post, followed minutes later by another call from a commuter who witnessed the terrifying incident. These immediate alerts helped police and emergency services respond quickly to the scene.
This explosion near Red Fort marks the first major blast incident in the national capital in 13 years, breaking a relatively long period of calm in terms of such security breaches in Delhi.
