Gurugram Police have registered an FIR against comedian and former Bigg Boss 19 contestant Pranit More, web developer Himanshu Jangra, and the owner of The Laugh Store following a viral video from a stand-up comedy show at Cyber City. The incident occurred during a crowd-work segment where Jangra narrated a dating experience, claiming he bought a woman chicken biryani worth Rs 370 and later expected physical intimacy. He also mentioned taking her to a secluded park to recover the money spent. Police described the remarks as highly objectionable and suspicious.
Legal Action Taken
The case was registered at DLF Phase-2 police station based on a complaint by the National Commission for Women and suo motu police action under Section 67 of the IT Act and Sections 294, 353(3), 75(2), and 75(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Gurugram Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar stated that notices have been issued to Jangra and More to join the investigation. Legal notices have also been sent to social media platforms to remove the video.
Employment Termination and Public Apologies
Following widespread criticism on Instagram and X, Starvik Design terminated More's employment. Company founder Vivek Vishwakarma issued a video statement calling the remarks objectionable and emphasizing that the company does not support such views. More later apologized via Instagram story, acknowledging he should have intervened when the remarks were made. He clarified that the audience member's comments did not reflect his own views and promised greater responsibility in the future. Jangra also released a clarification video, admitting the story was exaggerated for entertainment and apologizing for inappropriate language.
