Calangute Resort Fire: 3 Fire Engines Rush to Under-Construction Site
Fire at Calangute Resort, No Injuries Reported

A fire broke out at an under-construction resort in Calangute on Tuesday morning, prompting a swift and substantial response from the fire department. Three fire engines were dispatched to the scene from different stations as a precautionary measure.

Swift Response to Morning Blaze

Officials at the Pilerne fire station received an emergency call around 6.45 am alerting them to the fire at Naikawaddo in Calangute. Firefighters rushed to the spot and immediately began firefighting operations. The blaze, however, was confined to a small storeroom on the premises.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Officials stated that only one security guard was present at the site when the fire started in the early hours.

Precautionary Measures After Recent Tragedy

Fire and emergency services officials revealed that they sent three fire engines from the Pilerne, Mapusa, and Porvorim fire stations as a precaution. This heightened response was driven by apprehension following the recent Arpora nightclub fire tragedy, which claimed 25 lives.

"We rushed three fire engines to the spot as a precautionary measure, apprehending a serious situation in the aftermath of the Arpora nightclub fire tragedy," officials said.

Loss and Lack of Safety Inspection

The fire gutted the storeroom, which contained various construction materials. "It is an under-construction building, so a lot of materials like paint cans, furniture, sofas, and hardware were kept there, a lot of which were burnt," officials explained. The staff present did not provide an estimate of the financial loss.

When questioned about safety measures and inspections at the site, officials clarified that no inspection of safety norms had been conducted because the building was still under construction. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation.
