A tragic fire incident in Bengaluru's Kothanur area claimed the lives of two toddler siblings on Tuesday evening. The victims, a one-year-old and a three-year-old, were trapped inside a labour shed when the fire broke out around 6:30 PM.
Fire Incident Details
The fire erupted in a temporary structure used as a dwelling by migrant labourers. The children were alone at the time, as their parents were working nearby. Neighbours noticed smoke and flames and attempted to rescue the children but were unable to reach them due to the intensity of the fire.
Rescue and Response
Fire tenders arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze within 30 minutes. However, the toddlers had already succumbed to suffocation and burns. Their bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
Local police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the cause of the fire. Preliminary reports suggest a short circuit may have triggered the incident.
Community Impact
The tragedy has left the labour community in shock. The parents, who are daily wage workers, were inconsolable. Local authorities have assured support and are examining safety conditions in similar settlements.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of migrant workers and their families living in makeshift shelters with inadequate fire safety measures.
