Florida Man Crashes Through Airport Gate in Attempt to Steal Plane for Sister Visit
A Florida man has been arrested after crashing his car through a secured airport gate and attempting to board multiple aircraft, with federal authorities revealing he intended to steal a plane to visit his sister. The incident, which occurred at Daytona Beach International Airport, has raised significant security concerns and prompted a multi-agency investigation.
Intoxicated Driver Breaches Airport Security
Bryan J. Parker, 58, was taken into custody on Wednesday after allegedly driving his Ford Mustang through a federally regulated gate at the airport. According to law enforcement officials, Parker was heavily intoxicated with "all kinds of drugs" during the security breach. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office reported that the man arrived at the facility and immediately breached airport security by crashing through the gate.
Body camera footage released by authorities shows Parker admitting to consuming substantial amounts of alcohol and drugs prior to the incident. Officers described him as disoriented and unsteady when they apprehended him on the tarmac.
Attempt to Access Multiple Aircraft
After crashing through the security gate, Parker attempted to access multiple aircraft on the airport tarmac. Federal investigators confirmed that law enforcement officials intervened before he could reach or board any plane. During questioning following his arrest, Parker told officers he was trying to get onto a plane so he could fly to see his sister.
"This claim forms a crucial part of the case against him," federal investigators stated, noting the admission came during formal interrogation procedures.
Serious Security Concerns Raised
The breach has raised serious security concerns at Daytona Beach International Airport, as the gate Parker drove through provides access to a restricted area. Federal agencies have joined the investigation due to the nature of the incident and the potential threat to aviation safety. Authorities emphasized that while no injuries were reported and airport operations were not significantly disrupted, the breach exposed vulnerabilities in airport security protocols.
Multiple Charges Filed
Parker has been charged with multiple offenses including:
- Trespassing in a secure airport area
- Criminal mischief
- Additional federal charges may follow as the investigation continues
Authorities have not provided further details about Parker’s background or his relationship with his sister, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. The case highlights continuing challenges in airport security and the unpredictable nature of security threats at transportation facilities.
