In a shocking development that has gripped Gujarat, the bodies of a forest official's wife and their two children were discovered buried in a field near their government quarters in Bhavnagar on Sunday. The family had been missing for ten days before the grim discovery was made.
The Disappearance and Investigation
The forest official, identified as Shailesh Khambhla, who serves as Assistant Conservation of Forest in Bhavnagar, had filed a missing persons complaint on November 7 at Bharatnagar police station. He reported that his wife Nayana (42), their 13-year-old daughter, and nine-year-old son had vanished the previous day.
According to Bhavnagar district Superintendent of Police Nitesh Pandey, the investigation took a crucial turn when technical analysis and interrogation of local residents revealed suspicious activity near the government quarters where the family had been staying.
"During our investigation, we received a tip-off that some digging had occurred near the government quarters where the family was living," SP Pandey stated. "The very next day, the dug-out field was allegedly filled up with sand, raising serious suspicions."
The Grim Discovery
On Sunday, November 17, 2025, authorities conducted a thorough examination of the filled-up land in the presence of an executive magistrate, forensic science laboratory officials, and panch witnesses. The excavation revealed three bodies that were subsequently identified by family members as those of Nayana and the two children.
SP Pandey confirmed the devastating findings: "Today, we got it checked in the presence of the executive magistrate, forensic science laboratory officials and panch witnesses and discovered the three bodies from there. The bodies were identified by the family members as those of Nayana and their two children."
Police revealed that the family members had been living in Surat and had come to Bhavnagar during school holidays to stay with Khambhla at his government quarters.
