A shocking robbery unfolded near Ambazari Lake in Nagpur on Wednesday afternoon when three miscreants targeted a forex exchange company manager and looted Rs 7.16 lakh from him. The victim, Khilesh Sahu, is a manager at a Raipur-based forex exchange firm. According to police, the robbers laid an elaborate trap, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility of an insider hand in the crime.
How the Robbery Was Executed
The incident began when Sahu was at his office at Rani Jhansi Square. He received a WhatsApp call from an unknown person who claimed to have $7,500 that he wanted to exchange for Indian currency urgently. Sahu, following standard procedure, asked for proper documents and details. The caller contacted him again around 3:30 pm, and believing it to be a genuine deal, Sahu left his office on a scooter carrying Rs 7.16 lakh in cash.
The caller first directed Sahu to Futala Lake but later changed the location to a spot behind a hospital near Ambazari Lake. As Sahu reached the designated spot, three men on a scooter approached him from behind. Police said they threw chilli powder into Sahu's eyes, temporarily blinding him. In the chaos, they snatched the bag containing the cash and his mobile phone before fleeing the scene.
Victim's Response and Police Action
Visibly shaken, Sahu managed to click a selfie and send it to his boss, informing him about the robbery. He was later admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Ambazari police rushed to the spot after receiving information and registered a case. Investigators are currently scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the scooter used in the crime. Police are also trying to obtain cellphone details, SIM card details, and tower location of the miscreants to track them down.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of forex dealers and the potential for insider involvement in such crimes. Police are leaving no stone unturned in their investigation.
