Gaya: Former Magadh University registrar Sushil Kumar Singh on Tuesday informed a Gaya court that the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree of Punjab policeman Parampal Singh appears to be fraudulent. Singh, who served as registrar, pointed out that Parampal had passed his Intermediate examination from Punjab in 1989, yet claimed to have cleared the BA examination from Magadh University in the same year as a student of Kisan College, Sohsarai. The former registrar described this claim as “simply not possible” and therefore “outrightly untenable.”
University Records Show No Enrollment
Sushil Kumar Singh testified that according to university records, Parampal Singh was never enrolled at Kisan College, Sohsarai, which is now a constituent unit of Patliputra University (PPU). He alleged that some university employees manipulated and tampered with the tabulation register to favor Parampal. The former registrar further stated that the university had constituted a three-member inquiry committee on the direction of the state information commission to verify the genuineness of the degree and certificate issued in Parampal Singh’s name. The committee reportedly found that the documents were not genuine.
Examination Board Suspended Degree
According to Sushil, the university’s examination board, chaired by the then vice-chancellor, later suspended the degree and certificate and issued a showcause notice to Parampal in 2014. He elaborated that the university had allotted roll numbers 13401 to 13531 to examinees from Kisan College, Sohsarai, and Parampal Singh’s name does not appear in that range. Additional public prosecutor Ujala Singh noted that the former registrar reiterated before the court the statement he had made during the investigation. The case is being heard in the court of Prabhat Kumar Chaudhary, Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC).
